[Posted by laurakas 1 year ago]In this part of Europe I’v recognized they try to give some night club toilet service. In my favourite pop-underground club in Cluj, Romania there was a guy in the toilet who opened cabin doors for everybody. At first I was thinking he is flirting with me and just being weird, but no - it was his job. Besides that, he also took care the toilet to be super becteria-free - cleaning all the surfaces after every second usage, so it all smelled like a chemistry factory. He probably tried to reduce this smell by smoking cigarettes continously. Didn’t work. Smelled worse than a pee :) Though have to admit, it was clean. I just don’t support over usage of household products.
In Skopje Havana Club (porbably my favourte nice live-music-everyday rock club) there is also some toilet service - guy standing at the entrance, holding two rolls of paper: toilet paper and paper for hand drying. So it is a little bit weird and emabarrassing to measure the amount of paper before going to do you stuff, ecpessially if one has number 2 problems. Of course he expects tip for it. SO I was standing there with my 50, 100 and bigger bank notes (60 denars=€1) and thinking no way I’m gonna tip him with half of the coctail money. So he was so nice and took my 50 denars and gave me back 30 from the tip box :)
Anyhow it is nice initiative to take care of the toilets in the club.
So how is the service in your country?
Why Macedonia FYRO (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) is called like this not just Macedonia?
Well the situation is that north part of Greece is also called Macedonia and they would never recognize Macedonia FYROM with the name Macedonia. It used to be one country - Kingdom of Macedonia - way too many years ago (800s BC–146 BC). This is also the reason why they had to change their flag. It used to have the same sign - Vergina sun - that Greek Macedonian flag (Vergina sun on dark blue) has. They thoughts it’s a conflict of copyright. So they cut down 8 rays of the sun in 1995 and you can see the result on the right.
As well I heard Greek don’t accept Macedonian language which belongs to Slavic language group. They accept only Ancient Macedonian language which actually fell out of use 4th century BC.
I also asked the locals if FYROM has change to join EU soon. The answer was that they have to change the name of the country.
When I told me Greek friends that I’m going to Macedonia, they asked if it’s Greek or Slavic Macedonia. Of course I said just Macedonia; Of course I didn’t know which part is which and they didn’t really like it :) As well I heard Greeks use the name of the capital Skopje for all the area of FYROM.
